Help & FAQ

How VotePrime works, in plain language. Signed in? Tap ASK anywhere in the app and get the same answers there.

Adding contacts

How do I add contacts?

Open Contacts and use the + button. You can import from your phone's contacts, from Google, or from a .vcf or .csv file. You can also add them manually, one by one.

What happens to my contacts after I upload them?

We compare each one to the public Texas voter file. Matched contacts appear in Active and everything else goes to Archive. It can take a few minutes and it runs in the background, so you can keep using the app.

What do you do with my contacts?

We do not sell, share, or provide your contact information to any 3rd Party. Please see the Privacy Policy for full details.

Matching contacts to the voter file

What does it mean when a contact is matched?

It means we found that person in the public Texas voter file. That tells you whether they are registered and how often they vote, so you know who needs a push.

Why didn't my contact match?

VotePrime currently only matches Harris, Montgomery and Collin counties in Texas. If the contact lives in one of those counties, check the spelling, use their legal name, or try adding a ZIP code.

What does Deep Voter Match do?

Deep Voter Match gives you a list of possible matches, with ZIP code and birth year, so you can pick the correct match if one is there.

Why can't you find anyone in my area?

We currently have the voter file for Harris, Montgomery and Collin counties. Contacts registered outside those counties cannot be matched yet, no matter how the name is spelled.

My contact is matched to the wrong person. How do I fix it?

Wrong Contact tells the app the match is incorrect. Then run Deep Voter Match to try to find the correct person.

Active and Archive

What is the Active folder?

Matched contacts land here automatically. These are the people you can actually work, because we know their voting history.

What is the Archive folder?

Everything that did not match. Fix spelling errors or add a ZIP on those contacts and try Deep Voter Match.

Nudges

What is a nudge?

A nudge is a text you send a contact from your own phone. You can write it yourself or have the app draft one for you.

How do I send a group text?

Use the filters on the Contacts screen to build the group you want, then use Group Nudge. It sends to everyone in that group.

Who should I be texting?

Start with Priority Target and Target. Those are the people least likely to vote on their own, so a text from someone they know is worth the most.

Voting-frequency labels

What do the labels on my contacts mean?

They show how often that person has voted. Always Votes turns out every time, Likely usually does, Target is inconsistent, and Priority Target rarely or never votes. The less someone votes, the more your text matters.

Your own voter record

How do I check my own voter registration?

Settings shows Your Voter File Match, with your districts and precinct. If it is blank or wrong, you can enter your Texas Voter ID there to link the right record.

The voter record on my account is not me.

Enter your Texas Voter ID in Settings and we will link the correct record. Your districts and precinct come from that record, so it decides which races you see.

What is a VUID?

It is your Texas Voter Unique ID, the number on your voter registration card. You do not need it, but entering it in Settings is the surest way to link the right record.

Why do you need my ZIP code?

Your ZIP decides your districts and which races appear on your ballot. Without it we cannot show you your races.

Ballot and elections

How do I see what's on my ballot?

My Ballot is coming soon. It will give you a preview of the ballot you can expect to see at the polls, or point you to the website where it can be found, such as HarrisVotes.com.

Where do I vote?

Ask me where do I vote and I will give you your county's elections page along with the statewide lookup.

Your progress

What does the Stats screen show?

Stats, under Contacts, shows your reach and impact in your local election.
